A photomanipulation for my art project.
This is so rude. How dare you? Muslim women wear the niqab as a form of modesty. The niqab is not meant to cover up bruises and cuts and scars. In fact, the niqab, burqa, and hijab are meant to cover up beauty. Astaghfirullah. If a woman is free to show her body, she is free to cover it. Why does the media portray covering your body as oppression and showing your body as freedom? We choose what you can and can’t see. That is one of the greatest freedoms. I am tired of racist ignoramuses twisting my religion as if they’ve read the Quran, as if they’ve watched videos about Islam, as if they’ve studied Islam, as if they know what Islam is, as if they know any Muslims besides the terrorists on television that claim they are Muslim. This is not what my religion is, so do not try to portray it as this. May God grant you peace and forgiveness.
^^^THIS…the entire paragraph is how I reacted when I saw this picture.
Instead of reacting to that end, that the person who created this photomanipulation is trying to say that ALL Muslim women wear a hijab/niqab to cover domestic abuse, perhaps realize the truth that domestic violence is an issue in every culture. Not only is it a problem in every culture, it is often unreported. The truth is that in many cultures and religions, Islamic cultures included, women are not encouraged or empowered enough to speak up about their abuse.
If you saw a domestic violence PSA in which a white woman wearing a white wedding dress is standing next to her white husband and they look happy, but then you see the image next to that one showing her husband wringing her arm behind her - that’s not saying that all white women who get married in a white dress are subject to domestic violence. That’s saying that domestic violence is a problem that is sometimes difficult to detect.
Obviously, I don’t know the intent of the person who created the photomanipulation, but the assumption that the person is an Islamophobe is equally uninformed.
