Dear people who make animated GIFs,

Animated GIFs can be really fun, and I am always grateful when I can find animated GIFs of my favorite scenes from my favorite shows/movies. It’s always like “Aw, I love people who enjoy taking the time to do this shit.”

Lately, though, some of you animated GIF artists have crossed the line. It’s all well and good to create animated GIFs of something that has been around for at least a year. A year is ample time for anyone to catch up with a television series or to watch a movie.

But, like, to post an animated GIF an hour after a season premiere of a show or during opening weekend of a movie (AHEM DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2) is just plain rude. And you people who re-post such animated GIFs are also horrible. There was a time when SPOILER ALERT meant something, when people abided by these rules of internet etiquette.

On behalf of people who don’t really own a TV and watch everything online or people who just aren’t crazy enough to go to a midnight showing, PLEASE STOP POSTING ANIMATED GIFS (or screencaps) of new episodes of shows and new movies. The internet is a horrible enough place - you don’t need to add fuel to that eternal flame.

Thank you.

Regards,

Soma
